500ml bottle. Clear, dark mahogany colour with average to huge, thick, frothy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, tan head. Dark malty aroma has chocolate and coffee notes, slightly weak hoppy counterweight delivers disguised hints of orange and grapefruit, a touch of blackberry. Taste is dry, roasty dark malty, hints of coffee, slightly grassy, herbal, minimally biting bitter hoppy overtones, hints of blackberry; soft palate, a bit light bodied and almost close to watery. There’s leeway for progression.

This beer pours a clear orange color with a thick foamy white head that diminishes gradually. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Grassy hops, fruit and malt in the nose. Light-bodied with flavors of herbal hops, citrus and biscuit malt. The finish is mildly bitter with a lingering grassy hops aftertaste. A well-executed above average session IPA overall.

Bottle @ weekly tasting shared by Dutchdrebus. Opaque very dark brown color with a dark red glare coming through when held into the light, looks almost black but if you look carefully it’s not, average sized beige to light brown head that diminishes but lasts for a decent while. Aroma is malts, dark malts, roast, a hint of coffee and a hint of liquorice. Taste malts, roasted malts, slightly coffee, decently bitter, some liquorice in there as well. A bit thin bodied, medium carbonation. Not bad at all.

Bottle from Ales by Mail. Black pour with a beige head. Aromas of chocolate, soy sauce, toffee, caramel and dark fruit. Lots of licorice and raisin in the flavour. Light bitter zing. Doesn’t quite fit my idea of a Black IPA, not enough bitterness for me. Still it was a tasty old brew.

3rd November 2014
Hazy amber beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is airy and semi dry, good minerally carbonation. Airy malt, light sweetness, trace of cream. Hops start pretty skunky but tempered by pine and tropical fruits. Zingy orange, lemon and lime. Airy finish with a bitterish tropical fruit linger. Delicious and drinkable.
