Can day 13 of the advent beer calender that I curated for Loz. Consumed sat in Frank, Wohnmobilstellplatz Bodenmais, Saturday 27th December 2025 after a 16km Loop hike today from Bodenmais to Charmer Hütte, we had a cheese board, meats, crackers etc in Frank tonight, listening to Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show on 6Music. Pours black with a tan coloured head. Yes this is very sweet. Thick in the mouth, oily, chocolate and sweet roasty bitterness, the sweetness is flooding through every time. Okay there is a little tanginess but it's so sweet, so ridiculously sweet, there's lactose it's creamy. Okay I think that moving forward I am really going to have to vet these big Impy' stouts very carefully, there is nothing wrong with this but I cannot finish it, really think that I am not the target audience. Score 6.5

Can day 21 if the beer advent calendar that I curated for Loz. Consumed at home Friday 26th December 2025 Boxing Day, after an 11km Loop hike today from Zwiedlerwaldhaus to Großer Falkenstein, we had Kacchi Lamb Biryani from the Curry Guy book and Onion Bhajis and Poppadoms, listening to Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes. Another great beer that lets itself down by being far too sweet, thickness in the mouth, lots of chocolate. So appearance wise it is jet black, if there was a head it disappeared before I took notes. There's a little bit of nuttiness but I don't really understand this Dubai chocolate craze, in fact I have purposefully avoided anything to do with this until now. Is it just me or are modern imperial stouts becoming too sweet. Ok think this is pretty good but struggling with the sweetness. Score 7.0

Can day 24 beer of my Mr Hop advent beer calender, direct from Mr Hop webshop Venray Netherlands.and consumed at home Friday 26th December 2025 Boxing Day, after an 11km Loop hike today from Zwiedlerwaldhaus to Großer Falkenstein, we had Kacchi Lamb Biryani from the Curry Guy book and Onion Bhajis and Poppadoms, listening to Beirut - A Study of Losses. Pours black with a cappuccino coloured head. A touch too sweet but very pleasant, However a little bit heavy on the lactose. Fudge comes through, there's chocolate, milk chocolate, it's a smooth Impy' a fairly modest abv Impy', some ice cream, vanilla it's good, very good even but the lactose needs dialling down a tad. Score 7.6

Bottle picked up from Äpfel Getrankemarkt Moosburg and consumed at home Friday 26th December 2025 after an 11km Loop hike today from Zwiedlerwaldhaus to Großer Falkenstein, we had Kacchi Lamb Biryani from the Curry Guy book and Onion Bhajis and Poppadoms, listening to Geese - Getting Killed. I simply cannot believe that I had the correct glass but had yet to rate this beer, super weird. Pours gold with a light chill haze, mid sized white head. Taste is simple, there's a light hoppiness, initially light sweetness but then a tad dry. It's simple but fine, I don't mind Kölsch and Altbiers but I'm so glad we live in Bayern. Score 6.1

Can day 12 beer from Loz's advent calendar that I curated, picked up in Zagreb this year. Had this on day 25, so 25th December, Christmas Day after a short but extremely cold 🥶 6km loop hike to Gasthof zum Sonnewald Schofweg. Watching the latest Stranger Things on Netflix. We had Za'atar Roasted Squash with Spiced Yoghurt and Pickled Chillies also Quince and Pomegranate Glazed Pork also Lamb and Feta Börek and cous cous and finally Baba Ganoush. Pours pitch black, oily, smooth, lots of coffee, milky, creamy. Roasty and coffee floods through again, and reasonably well hidden, sweetness not so, pretty good but a bit of a one trick pony. Score 7.0

Can day 19 of the advent calendar that I curated for Loz. Had this day 25, so 25th December, Christmas Day after a 6km loop hike to Gasthof zum Sonnewald Schofweg. Listening to Tortoise - Touch, cooking Za'atar Roasted Squash with Spiced Yoghurt and Pickled Chillies also Quince and Pomegranate Glazed Pork also Lamb and Feta Börek, also cous cous, and finally Baba Ganoush. Pours hazy dark gold with a white head, good mouthfeel, yeah nice carbonation. Wouldn't necessarily think yeah Kumquats and Mango but it's definitely fruity and slightly tropical, slight warmth from abv, good Score 7.0

Can day 20 of my Mr Hop advent calendar that I got direct from the webshop Vernray Netherlands. Had this day 25, so 25th December, Christmas Day after a 6km loop hike to Gasthof zum Sonnewald Schofweg. Listening to Tortoise - Touch, cooking Za'atar Roasted Squash with Spiced Yoghurt and Pickled Chillies also Quince and Pomegranate Glazed Pork also Lamb, also Feta Börek and finally Baba Ganoush. Pours hazy brown with a white head that didn't last long, soft mouthfeel, it's a nice carbonation. Nicely spicy, definitely Belgian vibes, the gin works well in this, that's two gin infused drinks in the last couple of days for me. Score 7.0

Can day 19 beer of my Mr Hop advent beer calender, direct from Mr Hop webshop Venray Netherlands. Consumed Wednesday 24th December 2025, Christmas Eve. We're had Nidi di Tagliatelle al forno (baked pasta nests) listening to Anna B Savage on Tidal. A solid imperial stout, very much ticking all the boxes, pours pitch black, little or no head. Yep taste is a text book imperial stout a sort of do it by numbers Impy', roasty, chocolate, smooth, a little caramel, fudge and hints of coffee and vanilla on the nose, a little background woodiness. This never strays far from the textbook version and whilst this niggles me a little as I would like to see a little more individuality and something that lifts this from the mainstream, I guess that is also confirmation they can brew to style perfectly. Good beer just a tad too safe. Score 6.9
