Started on Ratebeer in 2002. Never a huge ticker but have become more interested in trying smaller sample sizes of more beers lately. Current tasting group meets bi-monthly: tfontana, Airforcehops (CLW) and Chalumeaux, occasionally with AdamChandler and Jow. If you're ever in the MA/NH area, reach out! *Disclaimer* I rate N/A beers on a N/A beer scale. Not a scale vs non-N/A beers. So an 8.5 rating of an N/A beer does not mean I think it is equivalent to an 8.5 real beer.

7.8/10 β€” Appearance 8 Aroma 8 Flavor 8 Texture 7 Overall 7.5
Brewery draught, 5/26/25.
Dark, undetermined clarity. No head.
Rich bourbon, oak, even some salty char and low roast. Hints of soy and oxidation with vanilla, moderate fudge and no alcohol.
Rich maltiness has a huge chewy caramelization but is very attenuated leaving scant malt sweetness. Vanilla, raisin, soft fudge and a good bit of tannic acidity keep it balanced. It's chewy, thick and soft but falls just short of having that intense malt richness of the very best of class. Nonetheless, it's still very well-done with excellent barrel character that shows big spice, warming spirit and balancing dryness.

8.8/10 β€” Appearance 8 Aroma 8.5 Flavor 9 Texture 9 Overall 9
Brewery draught 5/26/25.
Heavy haze. Bronze-maize-golden. Small, white head.
Spicy, not that woody or piney. Light citrus juice with honey and white bread-like malts balancing easily.
Soft, very malty. Chewy and supple with spicy, lightly citrusy, gently piney hop. Wow, this is like Amarillo from 2007. Which is when it was at it's best, I think. Just all the interesting spice, good bitterness and more of a rounded, less acidic, woody character. Lingering papaya, unripe guava, kumquat and more deep spice. No onion, of course. No resin or astringent wood or chalk.

7.3/10 β€” Appearance 8 Aroma 7.5 Flavor 7.5 Texture 6 Overall 7
Brewery draught, 5/26/25.
Clear brass. Small, white head.
Good malty grain and a hint of dusty herbal hop. Clean.
Clean, crisp, malty and dry. Excellent grain and yeast character with sparse hops. Very light bodied but nothing unusual for its size/style. Obvious obligatory light crusher, but it's done well.

8.3/10 β€” Appearance 8 Aroma 8 Flavor 8.5 Texture 8 Overall 8.5
Brewery draught, 5/26/25.
Heavily hazy, bright golden-maize. Fluffy white head steadily to spotty cover.
Light juice with lots of unripe tropical fruit and even a hint of banana. Subtle, deep spice, no resin or alcohol noted. Bread and biscuit from the malt gently balances.
Very juicy, zesty, peachy and with a lightly bubble gummy yeast. Good malt depth, good attenuation. Ample bitterness with citrus and zesty green spice. Very clean and polished with a snappy, rustic grain and bitter finish. Very drinkable.
