Chose this one tonight as I thought the heated version would be quite medicinal after almost getting over a very dry cough of the last couple of days. I wasn't wrong, this pale golden coloured cider when warm does feel palate-friendly against a palate-unfriendly virus. It's sweet and full of different spices, winter-warming in design, good apple tartiness. I did try a little bit cold, however heating this up certainly enhances all the aforementioned, allowing its full character through.

MCR July Specials Beer#19. My only Manchester drinking day this month so a sweep of the one-offs. Blonde coloured brew, more lager than 'Baltic', if that's a style for this style or simply just a name?. However it's clean and easy enough without troubling flavour monitors.

MCR July Specials Beer#18. My only Manchester drinking day this month so a sweep of the one-offs. First of maybe six new specials here, looks West Coast, classed as a bitter, but somewhere in-between for me given a fruity hoppiness is available. Aroma gets bready, some in taste.

MCR July Specials Beer#17. My only Manchester drinking day this month so a sweep of the one-offs. It's not a typical stout, but there's lots of sweet roasted notes in both aroma and taste here, in a easy smoothish texture, which appeal. There's an underlying coconut flavour from it. It is sticky-sweet.

MCR July Specials Beer#16. My only Manchester drinking day this month so a sweep of the one-offs. This one is cloudy dark pink in colour, a light sour in design, tasting berry fruity but nothing really stated in terms of specific fruit, perhaps because it's not particularly sour. It's got body, slips down the palate smooth enough, a bit like a smoothie, it's likable.

MCR July Specials Beer#15. My only Manchester drinking day this month so a sweep of the one-offs. A second at the City arms in a plastic cup for outdoor sipping. Fruity clear golden session material out of York.

MCR July Specials Beer#14. My only Manchester drinking day this month so a sweep of the one-offs. A clear pale golden coloured brew, it's got a little more of the exotic than tropical beyond its aroma, with the Amarillo hops taking hold of the taste here, and a very worthy try for it.

Below the small town centre between the railway line (no station here) and the River Calder, it's at the end of the houses before business & industry starts to take over what land is left before the water, with the pub itself in its own building which looks like a big brick block. It's multi-roomed on the ground floor using much of it, with the bar on the right hand side after you enter. Much of the place has been left unmodified for quite a while it seems and can look a little spartan in places, especially with its high ceilings, but this is the charm of the place, probably enhanced on my visit by the fact everyone was in the large beer garden at the back full of picnic tables so the interior was only being used when ordering. The selection included several of their own cask efforts, some cask guests to compliment these and crafted keg lager supplied externally too.
