Beaconsfield's second craft beer joint, situated in the old town and a 15 minute march down a busy road from the other craft beer place (Beaconsfield Taps) and the station. It's an L-shaped room with the bar at one end of the "L" - definitely a bit bigger than the taps, although the tables felt a bit more crammed in. It was heaving and pretty raucous on our visit, with the staff unsurprisingly looking a little harassed (although they were still friendly enough). There were 12 beers on, including 2 cask, 1 cider and one of their (low grade) house beers. Overall the beer selection wasn't quite as good as the Beaconsfield Taps, and the beer quality didn't seem the best. While it's nice to have a second craft beer venue in Beaconsfield, the Taps is currently much nicer than this in all respects - hopefully this venue will improve with time though.

Bottle from producer's own stall at a market at Peterley Manor Farm, Prestwood. The friendly producer said it was dry but the bottle oddly said medium sweet - it was definitely dry on tasting though (as I'd expect a champagne cider to be!) so I've entered it as that. Also their website said it was 6% but the bottle I tried was 7%. The usual variability with cider then! Anyway, it's still, and a burnished gold colour. Theres's tangy apple and quite a lot of tannins. No farmyard though - it's got a touch of elegance. Drying finish. Decent cider this.

Can from Asda, Wycombe. Hazy pale gold with a white head and a middling fizz. Big fruity nose of mango and lemon. Taste is similar albeit more muted, with a touch of coconut thrown in for good measure. The mouthfeel is creamy and slightly chalky with a restrained bitterness. Decent if not spectacular, I rather enjoyed it.

Keg at Siren, Reading. New brewery for me. Turquoise to aquamarine with a thin white head; looks like loo cleaner, so hardly an appealing appearance. The aroma is of coconut cream. It tastes of blue raspberry slushy followed by more coconut cream. There's almost no sourness here at all, just a lot of sugary sweetness. The coconut is rather nice; the fake raspberry distinctly less so, and it leaves an artificial-tasting, sticky, tooth-dissolving residue. It's gone too far - this ain't a beer any more, it's some sort of ghastly American soda, and it can fuck right off.

Keg at Siren, Reading. Hurray, an all-too-rare East Yorkshire tick. Yellow-gold with a thin white head and a light but prickly fizz. Sweetcorn, a hint of banana, coriander seed. Some wheat chaff. A touch of metal. It's ok if a tad subdued.
