Recommended by the fine people at El Birrot and what a good experience it was.

I'll admit that we always pass Celra on our way to our house and never thought about stopping by this town as it is divided by the busy C-66. The bar is located in the small historical center.

Two taps of fine easy to drink beers - Soma and Garage and a fairly nice selection in the fridge ranging from German lagers, to cider, Cyclic, imp stouts, Chimay, DMR, Soma, Garage, Mager, Caleya, etc. Enough to please all palates especially in a setting (village/town) where the appeal would seem to be more on Estrella than craft.

I was really surprised by the food, mostly tapas - and two burger choices. However, the tapas are ample enough to be a small dish. Whereas many fall into the easy all buger menu or just reheating stuff from the supermarket here, all is made on site, the variety is nice and totally well priced - had awesome pork feet with sweet potato puree, chicken croquetas also home made with a good bechamel. Really good desert as well.

Mixed crowd as this is the only food/bar in the old town, and much better appeal than the places along the main road. Also cocktails, wine, coffee.

Friendly owner Ferran who saw my Birrot hat and started chatting about craft beers.

Will definitely return.

Hopsters Brewery Restaurant (Besalú, Spain 🇪🇸)

Finally made my way to Besalu and it had to be a very rainy evening - really nice small medieval town located in the Garotxa volcanic region of Catalunya. Car strongly advised to reach the town, or maybe a taxi from Girona. The town itself is worth a stop, one could easily spend a whole day there just trekking around or maybe half a day to visit, walk around and stop by Hopsters give the later opening hours. While the main brewery sits outside of the medieval old town, this taproom/restaurant is nestled in a newly renovated building right next to the old Sant Pere monastery, also appears they have 'Hopsters suites' so unsure if they have rooms for rent.

In the summer they also run a mobile beer caravan in a camping in the region (apparently owned by the brewer's family). Hopsters has managed to make a name for itself, and one can easily find their beers in selected spots but also at some of the beer festivals.

All in all, impressed by the location, I walked in a bit after opening and within half an hour the place was packed by locals - which is always a good sign.
Friendly service, and the brewer arrived to help a bit after. Food was also nice while covering, again, the usual list of burgers but with other options to make it a bit more interesting, and like the beers, well priced.

If compared to other craft places in the area, I'd have to give props to Hopsters for proposing a beer menu that caters to all palate rather than the now ever boring list of 'hazies'. Their range covered sours, to classic German lagers, session IPA, an Imp stout, etc; thus enough to please everyone. Plenty of cocktails using their beers, also a good roasted coffee selection and natural wines. Fridges with bottles to go but did not buy any.

Would definitely revisit and spend more time in the town.
