0.5 l bottle from local 'Trink & Spare', best before January 2026. Clear, dark reddish brown with a medium large, frothy, slowly diminishing, off-white head. Sweetish-malty, slightly fruity aroma of caramel, nuts and some raisins. Gently sweet, malty, moderately bitter, a little fruity taste of caramel, nuts, some cocoa and light raisins, followed by a short, moderately bitter, a little roasty finish. Medium body, gently effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Simple but pleasant Dunkel, one of the better beers from this brewery.

1 l growler from the brewpub. Very hazy, amber with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, off-white head. Sweetish-malty, slightly fruity-floral aroma of caramel, grains, nuts and citrus. Gently sweet, malty, moderately bitter, slightly fruity-floral taste of grains, caramel, straw, nuts and some citrus, followed by a short, moderately bitter, slightly roasty finish. Medium to full body, smooth and slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Not nearly as hoppy as the name suggests, still a pleasant beer, quite roasty in the finishy great mouthfeel.

Rather small bottle shop on the ground floor of a large shopping mall in the city centre. Seems like craft beer has arrived the middle of society. The shop is run by the former owner of 'Biermuda' in Bochum, so it's not just another affiliate of that craft beer store chain. Passion and knowledge is what makes this place worthwhile. Anyway, the selection is mainly German craft beer with quite some locals, therefore different from the offerings at the web shop. There is some international stuff as well, for example from the US, Poland or NL. There is a fridge for if you want to drink beer on the go. I guess the prices are a little higher than elsewhere but that comes with such a prominent address. Nice addition to the growing Dortmund craft beer landscape, still I bemoan the loss of 'Biermuda' even though the 'Bierothek' is closer to my home.

0.355 l bottle from 'Beer Republic', apparently released in August 2023. Black with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, beige head. Sweetish-malty, quite fruity, slightly roasty aroma of dark chocolate, coffee, dark fruits, bourbon, cognac and vanilla. Fairly sweet, malty, gently roasty-bitter, moderately fruity taste of dark chocolate, hard roasted coffee, roasted hazelnut, vanilla, dark fruits, bourbon, cognac and a touch of ash, followed by a long, fairly roasty-bitter, gently boozy finish. Full body, smooth and gently effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Very complex and intense beer, absolutely next level. Maybe even a little harsh, but with fantastic flavours developing towards the finish. Pretty rewarding and saturating brew, highly delicious.

0.5l can from local 'Penny', canned in March 2025. Slightly hazy, straw yellow with a medium large, frothy, slowly diminishing, white head. Sweetish, rather fruity, slightly artificial aroma of pineapple, gummy bear and hints of grains. Rather sweet, moderately bitter, quite fruity and slightly artificial taste of grains, pineapple, some gummy bear and hints of straw, followed by a short, moderately bitter finish. Almost medium-bodied, gently effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. I expected much worse, actually quite drinkable.
