Ugly muddy brown. Big notes of chocolate milk, sweet crispy cracker, nutty, a bit of sweet roasted malt. Thick. Has bites of gunk floating.

A style I generally loathe but this is done rather well.

Fully opaque yellow orange with a tall white head. Big notes of tropical fruits, sweet malts, tangy fruit. Full, thick body. Finish has plenty of tropical fruit and light fruit twang. Good for the style.

Lovely clear amber with a tan head. Toasted malt, bright fruity notes, a bit of spicy cracked pepper. Well-balanced. Medium bodied. Finish has more of the same. Drinks real nicely.

Orange with a tall white head. Big notes of peach, acidic, funky, lemony, earthy, brett. Dry tart finish with tart, candied peach. Medium bodied. Lovely stuff.

After an early evening drinking some of the best pints of Guinness one can ever have at both The Gravediggers and Bowe’s, I popped over to J.R. Mahon’s to try their take on the Irish Stout. I wanted to get another non-3 version down and see what their pub was like.

The pub is expansive and really pretty. The ceiling was gorgeous. Service was fine on a very busy evening.

I wish I could say something nice about the beer. I cannot, in any way, find a way to write a positive description of their Irish Stout. It was dreadful.

That’s all I have to say about that.

Copper with a white head. Bright citrus fruits and heavy toasted grain. They don’t seem to balance very well. Not doing it for me.

Muddy dark brown with a small tan head. Notes of fresh blueberry, chocolate, light roasted malts, molasses, toasted crackers. Sweet with a berry tart note in the finish. Body is a bit thin. Solid.

Clear pale gold with a white head that fizzes off instantly. Notes of lemon and sweet orange dominate. Thin fizzy body. Shallow overall but refreshing in a way.
