This Belgian-inspired ale is fermented with Brettanomyces Lambicus, a wild yeast, and brewed with German Munich malt. Very tart, almost sour, not for the weak of heart. The slight haze will disappear with time. Label reads "Alchambic Sour Ale"

Bottle thanks to Kyle. Pours a cloudy ruby with small pinkish head that lasts. The aroma is cherry skin, wood, funk. Slick body, sweet cherry, funk, nice tartness, enjoyed this.

On tap at The Alchemist. Pours a deep brown with slight ruby highlight when held to light. Thinnish off white head was almost non existent before the glass got to my table. Smells tart and funky with cherries and prunes mixed with lemons and brown sugar. Taste is much like I expected. Tart fruity funky. Brown sugar and cherries start the show then some lemons jump in to make me pucker. Finish is a long lingering sweet tartness. Medium body with a huge level of bubbles and a tart puckering mouthfeel. I enjoyed this one, but felt it was a little meh. Really nothing wrong with it just a bit boring for my tastes.

On tap at the brewpub. Poured a near clear reddish brown and a near white head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma was full of red sour fruits with a good amount of acid and a bit of a barnyard note. Flavor started with tart red fruits and grew to become quite sour and acidic with a bit of funk backing.

Cask pint at Alchemist, 7/8/2005, with CQuiroga and TAR. A haz(ier than it should be) red-brown auburn colored beer, with some bright strawberry tinges and a fair amount of yellow-tinged white head. Moderate retention and fair lacing. Aroma is full of b. lambicus. Smells like sour cherry pie, with a hint of orange rind and some grainy, almost bready malt in the background. Flavor shows too much meaty, thick, chewy yeastiness, typical of American brewers brewing Belgian styles. You aint gonna mistake this one for Temptation or Supplication (Vinnie’s got it down pat). I really don’t think the lightly sour, bready munich malts complement the lambic tartness. Would have liked to have seen just some sweet, clean, honeyish smooth pils malt, though maybe I’m just lame and unadventurous. Body is medium, and the palate dosent go limp or watery, but this is a prime example of meaty yeast, which I hate (meaty sacch yeast, not the b. lambicus). It’s well-done other than that, though.
