Draught at Lulu’s, 5/15/17.
Drab copper with a rusty accent, light to minimal haze and a beige-flecked, off white head showing moderate retention.
Fruit skin, leathery and tannic is softened by light malt sugars conveying honeyband graham cracker. Lots of pepper-like phenol keeps things quite funky andxspicy in concert with the lactic acidity. The fruit is very well-expressed here and yet harmonious with the beer. No alcohol or flaw nor any heavy, austere lactic character.
Juicy, moderately so with bright and also tannic skin notes combining with the supple malts to achieve a very drinkable balance. Light cornflower, heather and other interesting notes come forth as the lactic and fruit acids deepen the complexity. Tight carbonation and good attenuation keep it dry and crisp on the finish and there’s no alcohol or flaw. Mad I missed the red berry and blood orange versions but there are just too damned many beers out there.
