The love story that came to fruition in our core range finds itself amplified just in time for big festival beer season. We’ve always found the most comfort in our sour beers when utilising cherries, and this has born results in the very first sour beer we produced here at Polly’s in Kirschentart, right the way up to including it as a core beer in our lineup of permanent beers.
We held a creative meeting to discuss amongst ourselves as a collective what we could produce that would send our loyal festival-goers wild without utilising any hops, and Vanilla Cherry Riot was the result.
An amplified imperial sour that utilises well over a tonne of sour cherries, along with lashings of fresh vanilla, as well as milk sugar to thicken the mouthfeel and sweetness on this beer to the max – best served with sweets on the side, this one is pure decadence in a glass.

Can. Pours the colour of Ribena and throws a magnificent if short lived bubbly pale purple head. Airy palate, mildly dry, good fine minerally carbonation. After that, not so great. Smooth vanilla custard malts, decent cherry, ripe and tart elements. The back end feels a bit chemically, nothing drastic at all but clear enough to be off putting. Airy finish. Long slightly tangy ripe cherry linger. Cherry delivered with aplomb, wish this had been a more cohesive overall.

Keg at BrewDoge Clerkenwell, 17/10/2025.
Ribena red with a deep crimson to light purple crown.
Nose is berry fruit compote, vanilla essence, sugars, hedgerow.
Taste comprises bitter sweet cherries, vanilla, lactic tang, tarte red berry fruits.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a mellow pucker.
Okay for a pastry sour if a touch 1D and lacking depth for the double digit ABV offered.
