As big as Russia, as lavish as a palace, as complex as court intrigues and as mighty as a Tzar, the Russian Imperial Stout beer style originated as a love statement to Empress Catherine the Great. Seduced by that very style, we brewed this beer with a hefty amount of alcohol and rich chocolate and coffee aromas from dark malts. Truly Imperial!

330mL bottle, pours jet black with a small light brown head. Nose brings out rich roasted malt, light wood, and a touch of soy sauce. Flavour follows, with rich dry roasted malt and a little wood. Rich, creamy, adequately roasted mouthfeel, with an oily, full-bodied palate. Excellent.

0.33 l bottle shared with Marko and Višnja 666. Black with a lasting tan head. Roasty, fruity, blueberry, light alcohol, dried fruits. Sweet. Very smooth, silky and soft texture. Medium to full body, alcohol is hidden, warming, lasting smooth dry and roasty finish. Congratulations!

Bottle, 330 ml and tap at Tolkien's and Veliki Tolk. Pours black with medium beige head. Strong roastiness, dark chocolate, some coffee, quite dry and bitter. Fine carbonation. Medium to full bodied. Not my type of impy atm but well executed.

Bottled 330ml. -from Spicy Days Zagreb. Pitch black coloured, small to medium sized brown head, chocolate and mild coffee in the nose. Roasted malt (almost burnt), heavy dark chocolate, coffee, balanced notes of alcohol with dry bitter finish and aftertaste. Well done.

Pitch black, thick, medium creamy dark tan head, nice lasting. Aroma is very roasty, dark chocolate, some dark fruit, light biscuit and caramel. Taste is medium+ sweet malt, strong roasted notes, burnt even, bitter dark chocolate, coffee, some dark fruit, medium+ roasty bitterness, dry burnt coffee finish and lasting aftertaste. Full bodied, soft carbonation, creamy. A bit too burnt to be trully excellent. (bottle, Pivoteka, Zagreb)

Bottle, 0.33l. Thick black pour, minimal beige head, short lasting. Nose filled with berries, toffee and dark chocolate. Very much cake-like. Medium to full body, soft carbonation. Thick and oily mouthfeel. Bittersweet taste with strong alcohol presence. Slightly off-placed bitterness towards the finish. Rich aroma. Strong in the malt side - caramel and roasty. Coffe grains, dark chocolate. Liquor. A bit woody. Subtle smoke. Surprisingly strong fruity notes. Forest fruit, some tartness going on. Quite strong alcohol burn on the tongue, very dry mouthfeel. Finishes dry, bitter and roasty. Overall, very good imperial stout. Not the best one I had, still needs a few tweaks here and there. That off-placed bitterness is ruining it a bit for me... And the price is... well, a bit too pricey. But still, very good brew.

Pre-release gift from the Zmajska crew, huge thanks! Pitch black, tan head, lacing. Lovely milk chocolate aroma, fresh, malty, light light well integrated alcohol, vague anise perhaps? Surprisingly soft, lean body for the ABV and the style, which actually helps drinkability. Enormous roast, chocolate, sweetness. Light hoppy herbal touches, solid bitterness. Creamy, tasty. Vague vague apple touches around prevent it from getting an even higher score, but all in all, remarkably well crafted. Classic RIS.
