Cangrande is the most popular and loved member of Scaligeri’s medieval family. He has been able to make his dynasty one of the greatest and most important in Verona; he was not only a clever conqueror, a shrewd politician and a notorious administrator, but also a charitable patron.

Even the great poet Dante Alighieri, a friend and admirer of him, counted Cangrande among the Divine Comedy characters, in the third cantica (Paradise). And it is precisely his bravery and his several successes on the battlefield which inspired this bold, piney HELLES beer, with echoes of Bavarian brewing tradition.

Slightly hopped, golden in color, with herbaceous and acacia honeyed scents, fresh, with a pleasantly dry and very delicate taste: these are the peculiar characteristics of the HELLES.

0.33 l bottle, best before November 2016, shared by markoijelena, thanks! Clear, golden amber with a tan head. Sweetish-malty aroma of grains, some honey and a bit of straw. Sweetish-malty taste of grains, honey and some straw, followed by a short, slightly bitter, a little grassy finish. Thin to medium body, smooth mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Okay.

On tap @Bir&Fud (Rome). Pours pale golden with a medium and quite persistent white head. Aroma of bread crust, cereals, grassy notes, light farmhouse touch. Flavour is not perfectly balanced and a bit too easy but satisfying, mostly malty with a decent bitter end. Light body, medium carbonation. Ok.
