Back to basics with this one. Keep it simple we thought and we decided we wanted a nice, not overly sweet, brown ale with a nice full maltiness and only a hint of bitterness from the dark malts...

Ingredients: Water, barley malt (pilsner, cara 50, chocolate), Challenger hops and yeast.

Faintly malty on the nose, pours a deep brown with a foamy off-white head - more malt in the taste, with hints of chocolate in the predominating toffee/caramel flavours

Bottle from LDW, Eke. Dark brown colour, beige foam. Aroma of caramel, wood, dried fruit, toast, bread. Taste is rather dry, sweet, bit bready, malty. Not a bad brown ale.

Fles thuis geprobeerd met LiekevdV. Het is een donkerbruin bier met een diep rode gloed. Het heeft een dun beige schuim. De geur is moutig en chocolade. De smaak is chocolade achtig, wat bitter en een beetje droog.

Thick, irregular & dense cream head, quite stable over hazy dark reddish brown beer. Sweet nose: melanoidins & speculaasherbs, but also arachide, rancid peanuts, fatty acids, vegetable. More of the same, but in the taste, the flavours balance out better. Dark malts with some caramel dominate, with the sweet and the vegetable/peanuts in the background; aloe vera. Warming up, I seem to get some underroasted coffeebeans. Despite the contents not really oily; feels well-carbonated, medium bodied. I could live with the overall flavour, but there is some mangling in the brew. I'd wish a bit more of the inventiveness used for the names would go into the fermenters... 5/4/6/3/12
