Map 40 is a Belgian-style stout blended with cold-brewed coffee from Speckled Ax. Black in body with a tan, reddish-tinged head, this beer’s aroma is strong in coffee and light in roasted grain. Brewed with dark chocolate malt, chocolate malt, roasted barley, and brown malt. A light nuttiness accompanies tastes of chocolate, raisin, and a resounding coffee note that weaves its way throughout. This is a rich, creamy stout with a clean finish.

Refrigerated 12 oz. brown squat bottle, bottled on January 18, 2018 poured into a glass. Dark brown with medium beige head. Aroma is dark malt, medium body, medium carbonation, and thin good small-bubble lacing. Taste is soy sauce, coffee, and some nuts.

Aromas are mainly dark roasted malts and really fresh black coffee. Flavors are a little bit like I thought they might be in a little bit not - they're similar to nose and yet there are also some yeasty qualities that don't go so well with coffee yet at the same time this is some pretty good stuff.

This beer was our reward for successfully capturing a bee swarm. Black color brown head. Earthy coffee aroma. Taste is earthy coffee grounds with an edge of funk. Very nice. And the bees are happy.

Pour is a complete black with a small tan head. Aroma is a full coffee with some dark chocolate and maybe some molasses. Flavor is more coffee, not an intense espresso but a decent dry roast. I also get some molasses and burnt caramel. This beer did not have an intense coffee flavor but more of a mild coffee with some sweeter malt notes to take something off the bitterness. Solid beer nonetheless.

12 ounce bottle. Dark brown color. Small creamy tan head. Robust roasted malt nose. Lots of coffee and chocolate. Roasted malt flavor upfront has that Belgian yeast twang. Big coffee notes. Hints of dark dried fruit and toasted walnuts. Creamy mouthfeel. Complex and flavorful.

Pours black into a tulip. Mocha head with excellent retention recedes to skim surface. Sweet caramel and espresso aromas. Soft with sweet caramel, licorice and soy upfront turning to dark chocolate and charred espresso in the lasting finish.

Very nice coffee stout from Allagash, full of chocolate and mild fruit notes with a delicious coffee backbone. Cocoa, anise, coffee cherries, and nuts all pop up, as do minor hits of caramel and vanilla. Finishes with a modest sweetness and plenty of lovely java. Damn fine pint.
