Map 40 is a Belgian-style stout blended with cold-brewed coffee from Speckled Ax. Black in body with a tan, reddish-tinged head, this beer’s aroma is strong in coffee and light in roasted grain. Brewed with dark chocolate malt, chocolate malt, roasted barley, and brown malt. A light nuttiness accompanies tastes of chocolate, raisin, and a resounding coffee note that weaves its way throughout. This is a rich, creamy stout with a clean finish.

Reviewed from notes.
Bottle to tulip.
Appearance: poured dark brown close to black and had a one and a half fingers of eggshell white foamy head which dissipated nicely to leave some light lace
Aroma: milk chocolate, dark chocolate, light Belgian yeasty notes, sweet coffee notes, roasted coffee notes, sweet earthy scents, toasted nuts, dark fruits and a light note of Belgian sugars
Flavor: blends the prior noted aromas in a sweet to semi-spicy sort of way; finishes sweet coffee-ish and Belgian sugary
Texture: medium bodied, leaning towards being a sipper; some smoothness but also some noted dryness
Overall: so this is some sort of Belgian styled cold brew coffee stout? Is that I what I heard? well, not bad, I think I could come back to this.

Served in snifter, very dark brown opaque. Full bodied, velvety mouthfeel. Very strong coffee nose. Coffee also dominates the taste, with chocolate, yeast and dark fruit notes underneath. Malty coffee finish.

Draught @ Ginger Man - NYC (12/4/19). Dark brown with faint ruby red highlights, small creamy tan head, coffee-cardamom aroma, adequate carbonation, medium bitter coffee-cardamom taste, thin body, long finish. Smooth and easy to drink.

Can pour from trade with johnnnieee--thanks, John! Appearance is extremely dark brown--virtually opaque--with dark mahogany with light source directly behind, a few chunks and lighter mist of floaties, trace sparkle at the edges of the glass with finger-width foamy light brown head with fair retention and light leggy lacing. Aroma is strong roasted coffee, earth and cream. Taste is strong mix of roasted malt and coffee, mellow yeasty, lightly tart earth backdrop. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with thick, foamy texture, average carbonation with lively kick and finish as taste. Overall, strong aroma and flavors without being overpowering in any direction--very well balanced. Nice.

On tap at Church Hall, pours a translucent dark brown, fluffy off white head. Nice nose, malt, chocolate, toast, nice coffee, some tootsie roll. Flavor is Charleston chews and coffee, its very nice, some toasted marshmellow, some cocoa nib, some toast. Finishes dry, smooth.

Can from Londonderry quick stop. Dark brown/black in color with a decent off white head that persists. Coffee roast and light peppery wet dog. Caramel and chocolate round it out but this is more of a beer flavored coffee with some oxidation imho.

Bottle from the brewery, bottled on 01/11/18. Pours a real dark brown colour, almost black, with little copper highlights. The light mocha-coloured head is creamy, frothy, big, long lasting with nice creamy lacing. Aromas of freshly crushed roasted malts and coffee beans. After a while, apples and hints of dark fruits come out. The taste shows a little more the coffee as the predominant flavour. It lingers on the tongue. Decent bitterness from this. Quite smooth all around though. A very nice coffee stout from a very friendly brewery.
