Cask at Bird In Hand, Stafford. Pours almost black with a small scummy tan head and good lacing. Thereโs roasted malts and dark fruits in the aroma. In the mouth it is quite sweet with a creamy texture. Flavour has malts, cola, oats and hints of dark fruits, liquorice and honey. A little bitterness in the fruity finish. This is decent.

Handpull cask at the Piper, Kettering. Very dark brown, just a bit of translucency. Sweet oaty aroma, sharp liquorice, some bramble. Taste is a little too sweet, cloying liquorice character which gives way to a naked bitterness to the finish. Medium body and carbonation. Not a great balance, but a pretty decent beer all things given.

[Cask at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading.] A glossy deep tawny brown pour with a tight beige head; chocolate aroma; smooth in the mouth with a lactic feel and a chocolate malt taste; then a pleasant herbal bitterness and a dry malty finish. Very drinkable.
