It is never a sin to age a great brew in wooden barrels. We did that with the beer that we brewed together with our friends from brewery Puhaste from Estonia. This beer is aged for 9 months in Tawny port barrels.

On tap at Proeflokaal Arendsnest. Pours black with a beige head. Lots of coffee and roasted malts on the nose,a bit perfumey. Flavour has lots of coffee, some toasted bread, bourbon barrels, some perfume. Pretty good, but definitely not great.

375ml. Dark brown colour, tiny beige head. Aroma has portwine sweetness, vanilla and hints of coffee. Full-bodied. Coffeish, dry flavour. Roasted malts, some portwine. Woody notes, some alcohol. Suprisingly not sweet at all. Probably aged a bit too long in the barrels.

Bottle at home. Pours black, nose is raspberry, toffee, chocolate, jam, taste is sweet toffee, chocolate, port, woody, a little too much barrel for me. 8/8/7/7/7

Bottle from Drankenhandel Leiden. Wood and fruit from the Port barrel upfront, sweet and a bit sticky with a fairly full body. Complementary notes of roast and dark chocolate. Finishes with more wood and a hint of fruity tartness.

0.375 l bottle from 'Mr. Hop', best before December 2030. Pitch black with a thin, frothy, almost stable, light brown head. Sweetish-malty, quite roasty aroma of dark chocolate, coffee, hazelnut and vanilla with a touch of port. Quite sweet, malty, moderately bitter, fairly roasty and a little vinous-fruity taste of dark chocolate, coffee, toasted hazelnut, some vanilla and a touch of port, followed by a long, gently roasty-bitter, minimally boozy, a little woody finish. Full body, smooth and slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Delicious brew, not too heavy on the barrel but quite well-balanced.
