Can shared at Craft Islington. It pours dark brown / near black with a medium beige head. The aroma is rich, bitter - sweet, roasted malt, coffee, dark fruits and cocoa. The taste is smooth, rich, roasted malts, earthy coffee, toasted pine, cocoa and liquorice. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Doesn’t stand out to be an obvious IPA in my opinion, but I like it nonetheless.

Pours a real dark brown colour with a frothy-creamy beige head, good retention and thick creamy lacing. Mild hoppy aromas at first, but the dark malts take over quickly with chocolate, roasted and coffee notes. The taste is where the hops are stronger with some grassy and slight metallic characters. Oily start to the mouthfeel with a dryer finish. Nice citrus zest and roasted malts linger. A pretty good Black IPA and a nice first experience from this brewery.

Can from the LCBO. Opaque mahogany with a tiny beige head (even after an aggressive pour, which doesn’t seem to match other’s experience). Nose is roast, chocolate, light coffee, pine and light citrus, some vanilla and a hint of smoke. A light molasses sweetness under a medium+ dark chocolate and pine bitterness. Medium slick mouth with very soft carbonation and a long dry bitter finish. Will need to grab a couple of more cans (for the sake of thoroughness) to see if this one in particular is just flat. Update: additional cans show some improvement in carbonation, but still a bit soft.

Draft - Light roast and a touch of hop. Jet black with a rich beige head. Little smoke, roast and a hop bitterness. I like it, but it isn’t what it says it is. Smokey, bitter and roast.
