Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up from Sainsbury’s I think, about 8 years ago. Pours clear ruby-brown with a frothy, khaki head. Medium sweet flavour with rich stewed berries, toasted mats, toffee, subtle oxidation, a little leafy-earthy bitterness. Medium bodied, lightly oily and chewy, with lively, massaging carbonation. Sweet finish, notes of candied sugar, more toffee, brown bread, caramel, berries. Tasty stuff, has aged well.

After being in countless Thwaites pubs, finally found this at the Manchester Beer Festival 2014. Copper with a small head. Strong tasting with a high sweet fruit aroma. Has a medium bitterness.

Bottled. Copper colour with a small beige head. Aroma is caramel malts, some alcohol, mild toasted notes as well as a nice floral and fruity tone to it. Flavour is very similar, with the fuggles coming in really nicely. Also has a bunch of resiny and nutty notes in the flavour. One of the better old ales I’ve had.

Bottled. A dark amber beer with a yellowish head. The aroma has notes of minerals, prunes, malt, and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, fruit, and over ripe fruits, leading to a dry finish. Thanks yespr for sharing.

Slightly cloudy deep copper coloured ale with a small head. Its strength is apparent in its aroma but only fully revealed as part of its taste. Has a mild sweetness.
