Dunkel! A Lager style almost single-handedly saved by the descendants of the last king of Bavaria Konig Ludwig the Third. It belies the senses, but don't be afraid of the dark!

500ml bottle at home. Pours a deep brown, slight maroon twinge, with a thick medium off white head. Nose is caramel, brown sugar, bready malts, bit of a floral hop note. Flavour is strong brown caramel, brown bread, but of a hop resin bitterness. Medium carbonation

Draught at Against the Grain. Brownish black with a thin head, ok lacing. Aroma is sweetish toast malt. Flavour is sorta a cross between a schwarzbier and a Dunkel. Sweet vanilla, very dry at the back of the throat, a little toast at the base. --- Beer merged from original tick of Dark Lady on 15 Feb 2017 at 16:04 - Score: Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 6 | Flavor - 6 | Texture - 8 | Overall - 5.5. Original review text: Bottle from Martins. Deep mahogany with a large head. Aroma of sweet malt. Flavour is nutty malt, sweet roast malt, dry intense malt finish.

Cask at GBBF 2009. I hadn’t had a lot of the Irish cask beers, so I was interested to have them. Very dark brown, sticky gingerish beer. Not sure it’s fully attenuated. Gets a bit better, but not a lot.. Pretty lousy to be honest.
