Mikkeller has opened several world-class craft beer bars all over the world, most recently in Asia. We wanted to apply this globetrotting take to our collaboration brew. We found inspiration in a classic Thai iced tea: the spiced tea and condensed milk classic ubiquitous in Thai restaurants. The result is a spiced amber ale, brewed with black tea, sweet orange peel, tamarind, and star anise with lactose added for a full and creamy mouthfeel.

Aroma’s the best part here, spicy, creamy and tea. Flavor’s like nose in a way, but it doesn’t work so well.

12oz bottle. Amber-orange body. Foamy thin off-white head. Pretty cool that Mikkeller made some off the wall stuff for his collab. Very unique offering, reminds me some of the Dogfish chai tea beer, but has an interesting fruity edge. Tamarind tones are pretty cool, sweet, but with a unique earthy, fruity touch maybe from the orange peel combination. Lactose is a perfect melder here. Smart, cool beer.

Pour is a hazy orange with a large white head. Aroma is some spice and herbs. Some tamarind, and star anise I guess. Flavor is thin a watery with slight spice. Goes down easy with no spice or bitterness hitting the tongue after the swallow. This was kind of mediocre all around. Nothing stood out and said hay I’m a Thai inspired beer.

For what it is, it is easy to drink. Higher then 3.75 but not a 4.

12oz bottle pours out a crisp copper amber color topped with a sand head. Nose is light Thai tea some anus spice and a sweet note. Taste is more of the light tea notes black licuris notes and a funny spice. I was really looking forward to this one but it was just ok.

Copper colour, clear, foamy but fast shrinking.
I get orange and anise smells with black tea showing up with more effort.
Orange peel first, anise and tea follow, overall spicy and drinks stronger than the 7.2%abv.
Nice but 1 would be my limit. ;)

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 4/20/2017. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy golden amber/light orange color with a 1-2 finger dense off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big licorice, mint, anise, cola, lemon, apricot, orange peel, vanilla, cream, black tea, caramel, brown sugar, lightly toasted bread, light cocoa/nuttiness, and herbal/floral earthiness. Nice aromas with good complexity and solid balance of bready malt, tea, lactose, and spice notes; with good strength. A bit too strong on the spices in the aromas, but not overwhelming. Taste of big licorice, mint, anise, cola, lemon, apricot, orange peel, vanilla, cream, black tea, caramel, brown sugar, lightly toasted bread, light cocoa/nuttiness, and herbal/floral earthiness. Light herbal tea and spice bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of licorice, mint, anise, cola, lemon, apricot, orange peel, vanilla, cream, black tea, caramel, brown sugar, lightly toasted bread, light cocoa/nuttiness, and herbal/floral earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of bready malt, tea, lactose, and spice flavors; with a nice malt/bitter/spiciness balance, and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Slight dryness from bitter/spiciness as well. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy, and slightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol for 7.2%. Overall this is a very good experimental herb/spiced beer. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of bready malt, tea, lactose, and spice flavors; very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV. Never overly sweet or heavy feeling. There is a surprising level of complexity from the spices alone, and it all comes together really well. A bit odd at first, but I really enjoyed it as I finished the glass.

Bottle. Pours a clear dark amber color with a large white head. A sweet fruity ice tea nose, really a lot like ice tea. The flavor is pepper, lemon, big sweet notes, black tea. A bit odd honestly. OK.

Bottle from the mix pack from Total Wine in Folsom, CA. Pours slightly coppery gold with a creamy head that seems a bit off white. Danged if it doesn’t smell a bit like Liptons. Med body. Flavor? A big shot of black tea for starters. Next is a sweetish citrus, and there’s a bit of anise. Personally, I think the lactose was not the best idea. Yes, it renders sweetness, but I like my iced tea black and not sweet. Just me tho.
