Sour ale aged in wine barrels with strawberries. A celebration of the summer harvest, this blond sour ale is loaded with Coastal Seascape Strawberries grown at Dirty Girl Farms in California’s santa Cruz Mountains. These delicious berries are swept by cool evening ocean breezes and drenched in warm daytime sun before being hand-picked and added to this tart and refreshing ale. Enjoy paired with classic charcuterie and summer salads.

This cost about 1900 yen at Craft Beer Base in Osaka. It pours a deep orange-gold with a very slight fizzy head of foam which isn’t so unusual for sour ales. The aroma is not bad, funky oak, tartness, wet hay overlaying a strawberry sweetness. The taste is quite tart and acidic in the initial, then a bit woodsy with some red wine notes before finishing on a mild strawberry sweetness that becomes sweeter and more jam like in the aftertaste. I’ve had many ultra-sweet strawberry beers and was worried this would be another but it is actually quite tart. I like it. Now if only I had some pie to go with it...
