Take our 10HL pilot kit. It is the place our brewers let those imaginations fly and lay down unpredictable, creative tracks. Our brew team use it to dial in our small-scale experimental brews, each then finding its way to our bars as a draught-only special release.
However, we felt the naming convention used previously – Pilot Brew XXX – didn't fully reflected the ingenuity displayed by our brewers. To depict this a little better we now release each pilot brew as a bona fide B-Side; alongside our production-batch launches that take place at our bars, you’ll be able to discover a flip side in the form of one of our B-Side releases.

Keg at Brewdog cj. Clear golden orange coloured pour with a lasting thin white froth. Aroma is big nelson sauvin, lemon and burnt clutch plate, zesty orange and grapefruit. Flavour is composed of juicy orange, pithy bitter grapefruit, nelson sauvin, bitter assertive biting hop. Palate is semi sweet, moderate carbonation, tart, semi drying finish.

Keg at Brewdog Shep bush. Translucent golden orange coloured pour with a lasting loose white head. Aroma is big zesty citrus, pithy, grapefruit, breakfast drink, orange. Flavour is composed of zippy zesty lemon, bitter grapefruit, butter tonic water. Little redeeming sweetness. Palate is frothy in the mouth, highish carbonation and some pithy citrus fruit in the finish. Aggressive clean grapefruit bitterness. Exactly like biting into a whole grapefruit. Some tropical fanta.

Keg at Brewdog Birmingham; hazy golden amber pour with a creamy white head, aroma has strong orange citrus aroma, taste has orange and tropical fruit juice action it’s amazing that this come from hops really zesty, with bitter grapefruit, nice.

Keg at BD Sheps Bush, 20/10/15. Lightly hazed golden orange with a decent off white covering. Nose is citric pith, sharp grapefruit, grassy, toasted bread. Taste comprises pink grapefruit, tangerine, toasted bread, melon, sharp citrics. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, juicy hop bitterness in the close. Decent.

Keg at BD Shoreditch - London. Pours clear orange-gold with a creamy white head. Lots of grapefruit juice in the aroma, a little orange and pine. Light-medium sweet flavor with dominant grapefruit character, bitter grapefruit pith, light acidity, grass, some orange juice, pine. Medium bodiednwith average carbonation. Strongly bitter on the finish, with lots more bitter grapefruit pith, peel and rind, some understated pale bread sweetness, other citrus fruits, mellow pine oils, biscuits. This is basically boozy grapefruit juice; if you like grapefruit juice, you will love this. I find it a little one-dimensional, but it’s still a very decent beer.

Keg at BD Camden. It pours clear deep amber with a medium, fizzy white head. The nose is soft, sweet, tangy, big orange aroma, zesty vibe, kumquat and marmalade. The taste is crisp, bitter, rather big on the orange, marmalade, light spice, kumquat, light cointreau and tangerine with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Does what it says on the tin.
