Rather than a typical Imperial Stout, which quickly decimates you and buries you in the yard, this delicate beauty wraps a warm scarf around your neck and just tightens it, ever… so… gently. Also, we put Russian Serf Stout on the label because we got a lot of emails from people arguing you can't make a 3.5% RIS and we don't feel like going through all that again.
Malts: Marris Otter, Dark Munich, Extra Special, Crystal 120, Dark Chocolate, Black Malt, Flaked Oats, Roasted Barley
Hops: Nugget

Taster pour at Tapped, Maplewood. Appearance is opaque black with huge light brown head, no sparkle. Aroma is rich chocolate, dark fruit, fudge, milder coffee. Taste is chocolate, coffee, bit of earth, Mouthfeel is light bodied with thin texture, soft carbonation and dry, crisp finish. Overall, delicious chocolate. Can't decide whether to dock it points for the thin body or give huge applause for delivering what they said--a paradoxically rich beer that is shockingly light (3.5 abv!--how did they get all that flavor in there?). I'll lean to the latter. 3.8 i

12 oz bottle, bought from Binny's in March. Bit of a surprise here, as this popped with a gusher. Which at least brought a punch of aroma to my nose… and around the room. Deeply roasty malt which, if aged in a high-alcohol stout, might have been able to mellow. Solid black, with a thin ring of tan foam, once the huge head settles down. A lot of roast, which most stout brewers try to downplay. Yet it's nicely sippable, if you like the taste of cold-brewed coffee.

12oz bottle. One of my favorite beers of the moment. Really true to style, deep mossy, roasty notes...more similarity to a UK beer than a US. Great dry balance. Really drinks with a lot of flavor. Way waaaaaaay more desirable to me than some sugar bomb pasty Stout. World Class. One of my favorite Off Color beers yet. Reminds me of second runnings beers in its remarkably well attenuated, clean body. Excellent.

Draft at Salud’s 5th Anniversary party, congrats! Dark brown color, beige head. Soft roast aroma. Taste is brownie dough, light body. I’m liking the low abv.
