Wax & Wane Imperial Stout (9.9%) is a brew that commands attention. Pouring a deep auburn with a creamy tan head, it embodies the cyclical nature of the season, its dark, mysterious colour inviting curiosity.

True to its name, Wax & Wane offers a balance between intensity and smoothness. It’s a harmonious dance of bittersweet chocolate, toffee, and roasted malt, with a subtle undertone of dark fruit. There’s a gentle warmth that makes each sip feel like the comforting glow of a waxing moon on a crisp winter’s night.

Sip it slowly, savour the complexity, and let the season’s rhythm guide you.

Poured from 355mL can (pkg Dec 23, 2024 - I guess they're off-loading old stock to BC?). Medium-dark brown wtih beige head. Toffee and chocolate malt with a bit of bittering roast. It's like if Granville Island Winter Ale was stronger and had roasty bitterness in it. Okay.

335 ml can. Pours a dark brown with full tan head. Aromas of caramel, brown sugar, and bready malts. Flavors of toffee, fruity almost dank hops, and bready malts. Nice enough, but not a Stout in any fashion. Really just a sweet strong American Ale IMHO.

355mL can, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma has plenty of roasted malt, some wood, and earthy hops in good balance. Flavour has a good malt base, with moderate roast, some woodiness, and some earthy hops underneath. Well-balanced, assertive, good malt base. Very nicely done.

Ok, so the appearance is lacking in darkness. There's some reddish-brown stuff, thin head. There's a bit of toastiness, though it smells like it'll be too thin. Okay body, some coffee, maybe caramel on it. It doesn't come across like an imperial stout to me, a more general strong ale. There's some alcohol in the finish, and there's also a bit of nuttiness.

355mL can. Pours dark brown with a beige head. Bready malts and brown sugar on the nose. Flavour has brown bread malts, some crusts. Nice hoppy bit and a full body. Nicely constructed imperial stout.
