Can from Craft Brewed. Pours a deep brown with a finger of quickly dissipating beige head. Light cocoa nose, coca cola aromas. More cola on the palate. Some dry cocoa powder and light metallic notes as it warms up. Not really digging this at all. Nice can design, but disappointing contents. --- Beer merged from original tick of Hop Cocoa on 21 Jan 2018 at 22:20 - Score: 6. Original review text: Light cocoa nose, coca cola aromas. Kind of a black pale ale, as opposed to a black IPA, with tons of chocolate porter goodness offset by a moderate, easygoing citric hop backbone. Cocoa, light notes of light roast java and coffee cherries, and a mild bitterness on the back end offset by a nuanced orange and lemondrop hop streak. Finishes with bakers chocolate and pinecones. Pours a dark, dark brown with an insane off-white head and infinite lacing. Nose gives up chocolate, not enough for comfort but it's there. Creamy texture is smooth and oh-so-sippable. Very nice pint.

12 oz bottle from jcos. Dark brown, thin head. Light, spotty lace. Aroma of lots of chocolate. Nice hop undertone. Good mouthfeel. Blind, I said chocolate and a little hops, somewhere between a Black IPA and a hoppy Porter, and that seems just about as accurate as you can get here. Sorry to see these guys him the same dark side as this website...

On tap at City Taphouse, pours a muddy brown with some soft, white head. Nose has cocoa powder, cracked grains, some toast, a little earthy soil. Flavor has more malt, some cola here, dark chocolate. Dry finish.

Draft at B Side. Poured a dark brown color, murky. Aroma reminds me of a black IPA. Flavor was pleasant cocoa powder, not overly chocolate, non-bitter bakers chocolate. Flavor had a decent hop character.

This brew is a dark brown color with a medium thick khaki head that recedes steadily to an outer ring. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt and hops. Medium body with flavors of roast malt, cocoa and mild fruity hops in the background. The finish is sweet with a chocolatey aftertaste. Above average overall.

Pour is more of a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is a bit of chocolate with some molasses and alcohol. Flavor is way more of a bitter bakers chcocolate with some dry chared malt and again some noticable alcohol. A little too dry and bitter for me. Some lactose sugar would have helped this beer in a big way.
