A perry pear with pedigree that dates back to the 1600s, first mentioned in Evelyn’s Pomona, where it was recorded as making the ‘best perry’ of any pear. This claim was repeated throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, but now the Taynton Squash is distressingly rare. We have just two trees. It is the earliest of our perry pears to ripen, making it a challenge to harvest and press at the very beginning of the season. Yet it truly is a rewarding fruit: a candied aroma of rainbow fruits with a flavour of honeyed pears, yuzu leaf and yellow fruit pastels. Perfect with apple tarte tatin! 750ml. 7.2%

750ml bottle from Ross on Wye, for #rgpm. Pale yellow gold colour, short-lived bubbly white foam head and aroma of perry pear, floral, citric, earthy funk. Taste is sweetish, perry pear, fruity, flowery, tangy, funky, with citrusy acidity and drying tannin. Medium bodied, spritzy carbonation, dry peary tart & tannic finish. Nicely drinkable.
