An unusual cider apple thought to date back to at least the 18th century but now rarely grown, for reasons lost to time. We sourced wood from a museum orchard and grafted 13 trees in 2019. This is our first ever harvest and a chance to rediscover this variety for the first time. The fruit is cuboid in shape and appears like ropes of onions on the branches, making a tree both recognisable and beautiful. A soft bittersweet apple that tastes like orange winegums. It is so good that it is baffling why this variety could have been allowed to nearly disappear! 750ml. 5.8%.

750ml bottle from Ross on Wye. Slightly hazed orange golden colour, short-lived white foam head and aroma of apple, caramel, funk. Taste is sweetish, appley, some skin and core, funky hints, tangy, with orange sherbert and light acidity & tannin. Medium bodied, light carbonation, dry citric & tannic finish. Nicely drinkable.
