Can. Deep garnet with an off-white head. Light, nutty malt aroma. The flavor is lightly sweet with a tangy bite on the back end. Not quite a Scottish ale, more in the Brown Ale type in drinking. This needs a bit more malt complexity and body.

same as https://www.ratebeer.com/beer/rivertowne-maxwells-scottish-ale/180693/ Sampled at the Rivertowne on tap in Monroeville 12/2007. A little perfumy, but not much. Slightly cloudy brown. Thin creamy head. Nearly flat on the palate. Earthly and nearly bitter. Perhaps some hints of wet straw in there too. The bitterness build with each sip but never gets too out of control. Overall, an OK and unique beer, glad have had the chance to try it. I think East End old hickory may be a little better than this, but not much.

355ml can from Total Wine, Tampa.

12oz can. Unfiltered brown-amber body. Respectable beige head. Smooth brown malt tones, caramel. Sort of middle of the road, but has some decent malt depth. A touch thin, OK.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a solid cola tint when held up to a light with a half centimetre tall tan head - decent looking. Aroma of pure cereal and funk - this smells exactly like Goya Malta or any other cereal malt beverage - just plain bad. Medium-bodied; Assertive cereal and funky malt flavours at first with nothing else following behind except for some odd sweetness and a hint of pears and other fruit. Aftertaste leaves nothing to be proud of - just some deep malt flavours and a funkiness that persists. Overall, a pretty poor offering, given that there isn’t much flavour and when there is, it’s just bad and not pleasant at all. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Total Wine in Tampa, Florida on 03-January-2014 for US$1.99 sampled at home in Washington on 04-March-2014.

12 ounce can from House of 1000 Beers, New Kensington. Pours a clear brown color with a medium sized tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of caramel malts, berries, nutty notes. The taste is caramel malts, toffee, citrus hops, berries. Medium bodied. Decent.
