Puitenkop

't Paenhuys in Nieuwkerken-Waas, East Flanders, Belgium 🇧🇪

  IPA - Belgian Regular
Score
6.27
ABV: 5.7% IBU: 50 Ticks: 18
De Puitenkop is an ale of 5.6%. It is amber and is more than 50 EBU, which makes it extra bitter. The dry hopping adds an extra aroma to this. The name Puitenkop refers to the Waasland dialect for frog and also symbolizes the hoppiness of the beer. If you are not a fan of a bitter taste, you will pull a face like a frog when drinking.

Bottled. An unclear dark golden beer with a white head. The aroma has notes of fruits, malt, lemons, and spices. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, spices, lemons, and straw, leading to a bitter finish. Thanks yespr for sharing.

33 cl. bottle - sampled @ Modest 2012 - supposed to be the more bitter / hoppier beer of their gamma it appears - neat label as with the others - darker shade of amber, lightly tanned head - heavier on the caramel malts nose, belgian in style but bit overpowered by the latter, some spices, herbs, mellower thinner, bit dominated by duller yeast - sweeter caramel, fruits, bit weaker, belgian side, yeast, spics, brown sugar, sweet herbal, hops are rather light, some buttermilk - medium bodied- passable, standard fare, some attempts, light results to be found

Small white head; coppery-orange beer. Alcoholic nose; caramel, sweet-smelling. IPA, or bitter even??? Bitterish-sweet, maybe a hint to Belgian endives witloof. But - where are the hops?? Insipid! Low carbonation (small wonder, seen the way it was poured), slick, medium bodied. OH dear; if you want to make a bitter, go UK, want an IPA, go to the States. And before that, learn to pour a pint, bl***y hell. From a glass, covered with a beermat into another glass, for shame!!
