A luscious and decadent ryewine aged in German whisky barrels.

The initial taste mirrors the aroma - fairly sweet, with lighter toffee tones and a touch of vanilla warmth. The full-bodied mid-palate is dominated by freshly baked rye bread with a pleasant roasted edge. The long, lingering aftertaste is defined by whisky character, a gentle alcoholic warmth, and a raisiny sweetness that stays on the palate for quite some time. This rich and elegant beer has excellent potential to continue maturing and developing beautifully in the cellar.

Appearance
Deep dark brown, almost black beer with a thin golden-brown head when poured.

Nose
The aroma is big and complex. The first impression is dark toffee, followed by a hint of vanilla. As the beer opens up in the glass and breathes, a bold and lush whisky note emerges. In the background, there’s the comforting scent of freshly baked rye bread straight from the oven.

Malts
Munich light, Rye malt, Red rye crystal, Caramel 150, Caramel 300, Special B, Chocolate rye, Carafa special T-3

Hops
HBC 431, Sabro

Bottle shared with SVD. Nice, but the whisky is VERY present. Would have been better if the flavours were balanced a little more.

Bottle, had this Friday 27th February 2026 around Jude and Baz's, Spond, Herefordshire we cooked a Chicken Tikka Masala. Bottle courtesy of Baz and Jude, cheers guys. Pours extremely dark brown, almost black, filmy head, warming, really warming. Boozy, fumes down the the nose, absolutely marvellous and far too easy drinking. Thickness in the mouth, lovely and incredibly drinkable. Score 8.3

21st February 2026
Near opaque dark brown beer, small and short lived bubbly pale tan head. Airy palate, mildly dry, good fine carbonation. Fairly mellow malts, a mild dark malt character, some unsweet caramel. The German whisky barrel provides a good whisky soaked ripe fruits, some spice and a little oak barrel induced vanilla. Airy finish. Another barleywine that is a slave to its barrel. But, tasty and drinkable.

0.33 l bottle from 'Craftbeers', bottled in October 2025. Black with a thin, frothy, quickly diminishing, light brown head. Intensely sweetish-malty, gently fruity and slightly boozy aroma of molasses, raisins, prunes, whisky and light vanilla. Heavily sweet, malty, moderately bitter, quite fruity, slightly boozy and minimally roasty taste of molasses, raisins, prunes, whisky, vanilla and light chocolate, followed by a long, moderately bitter, gently boozy finish. Almost full-bodied, gently effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Very rich and saturating brew, nicely fruity, not too boozy. Unfortunately a little thin, but apart from that a lovely beer.
