Annata is our Grape Harvest Farmhouse Ale featuring St. Croix grapes grown by Mark and Lynda Frausini just a half mile from the brewery. It’s a beer we’ve made since our first year and every year since, with just one exception - an early frost in 2023 left us with no Annata to share. This year's batch is a wonderful example of what wine grapes and wine making techniques can lend to beer.

Brewery draught, 9/15/23. Bright pink with some deeper red hues. Good clarity, large, pink-tinged head steadily fades to edge. Stunning nose is like smelling rich, fresh plaster. So much mineral with beautiful grape skin. Calcium and/or chalk, but in a good way. Fruity grape notes hit on the end, alongside ample honey and biscuit character from malt. Low barrel character, mellow. In the mouth it doesn't quite live up to the nose, but that's not too surprising as that's near a perfect nose. More tartness and acidity. Could use a bit more mellowing, but the flavors are excellent, with tons of red grape fruit and bright acidity alongside a supple malt texture with high attenuation.

Brewery draught, 9/16/22. Clear red raspberry. Small, pinkish head of low retention. Grapeskin, mineral, tannin, hints of raspberry-cranberry-red grape-like acidity. Very soft, understated. Clean and easygoing. Soft, but very spicy with big black pepper. Tannic yet very light, with high attenuation and a very drinkable wateriness. Chalky mineral, juicy acidity. Maybe not 7% abv worth of flavor, but the flavors are interesting, for sure.

Draught at Blind Tiger: pours bright red with white head. Aroma is grapes, musty. Taste is sweet, lightly sour, loads of grapes. Not too acidic. Good.
