This week we’re celebrating the harvest season with two beers featuring our family-grown grapes. That said, it’s more of a would-be harvest week for us. Sadly, a mid-May frost struck the vineyard here on Music Vale Road and virtually wiped out the entire grape crop overnight - only a tiny fraction of whites were spared. Such are the harsh realities of farming and it serves as a stark reminder of the challenges small, independent farms face regularly. The translation for Annata is “vintage” after all and there will be no red grapes to make Annata 2023.

We are thankful however, that 2022 was a banner year for grapes here in eastern Connecticut. One of the driest summers in recent memory strained most other crops but for grapes, it helped lead to more concentrated sugars and overall great fruit quality - the results are on full display in Annata 2022 and we’re very proud of this vintage.

Brewery draught, 9/15/23. Bright pink with some deeper red hues. Good clarity, large, pink-tinged head steadily fades to edge. Stunning nose is like smelling rich, fresh plaster. So much mineral with beautiful grape skin. Calcium and/or chalk, but in a good way. Fruity grape notes hit on the end, alongside ample honey and biscuit character from malt. Low barrel character, mellow. In the mouth it doesn't quite live up to the nose, but that's not too surprising as that's near a perfect nose. More tartness and acidity. Could use a bit more mellowing, but the flavors are excellent, with tons of red grape fruit and bright acidity alongside a supple malt texture with high attenuation.
