This week we celebrate the forthcoming harvest here on Music Vale Road. Annata 2021 leans further on a variable we’ve been tinkering with these past few years - maturation time following grape contact. Originally brewed in April 2021, Annata was fermented in stainless and then spent four months in one of our oak foeders. On harvest day (9/4/21), we crushed/de-stemmed back at the brewery and transferred the beer immediately onto the fruit. After a full refermentation we sent Annata back into the foeder for additional aging before finally packaging the beer this March. This additional time in oak and extended bottle conditioning period has pushed the beer further into the territory of being distinctly vinous - think more dark fruit and depth vs. pure fresh fruit character. Still, it resembles some of our favorite chillable red wines (only more so!) with soft tannins and excellent drinkability.

Brewery draught, 9/16/22. Clear red raspberry. Small, pinkish head of low retention. Grapeskin, mineral, tannin, hints of raspberry-cranberry-red grape-like acidity. Very soft, understated. Clean and easygoing. Soft, but very spicy with big black pepper. Tannic yet very light, with high attenuation and a very drinkable wateriness. Chalky mineral, juicy acidity. Maybe not 7% abv worth of flavor, but the flavors are interesting, for sure.
