Roasty-Chocolaty-Smooth: Drioma is the Slavic spirit of the night. Her dark nature is smooth and subtle, just like our Russian imperial stout. The Russian name was given to the style not by the location of brewing, but the location on consumption. Originally brewed in London for export to Russia, this notably strong ale became wildly popular with Russian imperials, earning the name Russian imperial stout.

500ml bottle. Very dark brown pour with a creamy tan head. Roasty aroma is lightly sweet with hints of coffee. A deep roasted malt flavor with light coffee, cocoa and earthiness. Ever so slightly bitter. High abv is completely hidden... drinks like a 6.5% stout. Pretty slick.

Capped 500 Liz brought back from the brewery. Pours dark brn/blk with a huge foamy/creamy tan head doing a Guinness pour. Aroma of burnt/roasted malt with some chocolate. Full bodied. Flavor is the aroma. Not dry, but more clean than sticky. Malty, but not sweet in a candy way. Earthy for sure. Ashy even. I can't find heat. Bitterness from the malt? Really good RIS - nails the style.

Bottle was about 5 1/2 years old when I drank it. Pours black with a small tan head. The aroma is of dark roast malt, coffee, and chocolate. The flavor is intensely roasty with coffee, chocolate, and some soy sauce. It still has some good, balancing bitterness after all this time. It's full bodied and delicious. Don't be afraid to age this one.

Bottle brought back from Utah by my son, Enniskillen. Nose is roast, coffee, and caramel. Black with a small, lightly lacing tan head. Flavor is lightly bitter, roasty coffee with a tinge of cocoa. Nice, not too sweet, coffee stout without all the adjuncts of the current flood of pastry stouts.

Bottle at Red Rock Brewing Co., Salt Lake City. Pours hazy black with a thinning, beige head. The aroma contains roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee, some hops and toffee. It tastes medium bitter with light sweet chocolatey hints and a toasty, medium long finish. Full body, oily texture, soft fizzy carbonation. Hides the ABV well, but a heavy drinker nonetheless. A balanced dessert beer for a good night.

Thanks Craig (Sledeutah).
Poured into a snifter, the appearance was a dark brown close to brown color with an off white to tan thin foamy head that dissipated fairly quickly. Concave lacing clings to the sides of the glass nicely.
The aroma has a superb blend of the roast to the sweet. Roasty coffee beans bounce on sweet milk chocolate. And then dark chocolate slides in. An ample amount of caramel and toffee slide in. Subtle toast, sly caramel, and some light dark fruits nuance the underneath portion of this. Refined dark fruits.
The flavor has an absolutely beautiful balance of the roasty coffee beans to the sweet milk chocolate. Dark chocolate graces it nicely with a nice dry semi-sweet to bitter aftertaste. Quick semi-sweet to a shy bitter-ish finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium to almost full on the body with a fair sipping quality about it. Carbonation feels pretty refined. Long roasty to bitter luscious stickiness hits my tongue exceptionally well.
Overall, Russian Imperial Stout? Damn right it is, and an absolutely well done one. Practically perfect, in my opinion, I haven’t had an RIS this good since......well, I don’t know when.

Bottle thanks to sledutah enjoyed while watching the film The Lobster. Dark brown beer. Nose is chocolate and ash. Tastes of chocolate, molasses, char, coffee ground, and lactose. Creamy palate doesn’t taste 10%.
