Draft at Meridian Pint. Clear very dark maroon color, beige edge head. Nice aroma of burnt brownies. Taste is vinous tannins and roast. A big chewy beer.

Sampled at Meridian Pint’s 6th anniversary pours an oily black with brown edges and a ring of off white head. Nose is interesting, spice and mild vinegar, a little charcoal, wood pulp, some malt, black pepper. Flavor has some licorice and black pepper, apple cider vinegar, a little hot with acid, muddled spice. Oily finish. A little odd.

From the ratings, it looks like they kept at least some of this beer around to age a touch more - which I’ll take. Deep dark brown body with a relatively faint light brown head that fades pretty fast. Aroma of figs, yeast, raisins, sour grapes, cherries and a bunch of caster sugar - this one is nice on the nose.Full-bodied; Strong roasted malt flavours with a defined yeast quality (I suppose that of Chimay), some vinous notes, a little oak and dry vanilla flavours and a touch of hay and light perfumey elements as well. Aftertaste is quite robust and very complex with the malt at first showing some musty and mushroomy/earthy qualities, along with a good fruity finish of apples/cherries/figs/prunes and all with the complex yeast finishes - nice. Overall, a surprisingly complex and well-rounded beer, that I can happily say is my first one from this brewery/brewpub, and despite the high price tag (this is Falls Church, I get that they can mark up the price to whatever they want, and people will pay), I’ll stop back for more fills of some of their other beers. I sampled this thirty-two ounce growler fill for US$13,99 filled earlier in the day and sampled roughly 10 hours later on 05-February-2016 from the brewpub in Falls Church, Virginia, sampled at home in Washington.

12oz pour on draft at Mad Fox. Poured a very dark color, perhaps black with a small tan head. Aroma was lots of dark fruits, sweet caramel, lots of woody vanilla notes. Flavor was boozy dark fruits, light floral character, with lots of roast. Light tartness. Very easy to drink for the alcohol percentage.

On draft at the brewpub 5 anniversary it is a dark brown with a slight head. The aroma is yeasty and the taste is a sour bitter with a strong flavor of yeast

On draft at the brewery during its 5th year anniversary event. Pours a cloudy dark brown with a tan head. Oaky nose. Vinous flavors with oak and vanilla, with dark stone fruit notes, and some underlying tartness. Tart, bitter finish.
