From the darkness came a light, offering warmth and compassion from the cold night. Nestled in the palms of the curious adventurer, Lanthrone relinquishes complexities that dance in the twilight light sparks from the scorching of oaken barrels. Illumination of one’s senses culminates in a vanilla, spice, coconut, caramel, and cherry glow. An imperial amber ale brewed with numerous caramel malts, Munich malts, and oats; aged for 13 months in bourbon barrels.

375 ml Bottle in a trade with JStax, much thanks! 2016 vintage. Small thin weak lacing on the glass. Dark brown color. Bourbon, roast malt and toffee in the nose. Medium-bodied with flavors of caramel malt, oaky bourbon and fruit.

The finish is oaky with a toffee aftertaste. Bourbon has had enough time to mellow. Pretty good overall, comes off slightly sweet even with the bourbon.

(On tap @ CBC 2016 Yellow Session, Copenhagen) Pours a dark copper colour with a tan head. Aroma of candied fruit, malt, toffee, bourbon, vanilla, pretty sweet overall. Flavour is lots of bourbon barrel and toffee on the palate, not a bad flavour but really dominated by barrel notes. A lot of alcohol heat as well. A bit oily, low carbonation, even more alcohol heat in the aftertaste. Reasonably solid but a the same time there’s not so much to it beyond the barrel, feels like there isn’t enough malt structure to hold up all the booze. Not so much for me.

Bottle shared at Maakun’s, "Don’t take that THT away from me"-tasting. Bottle thanks to svartvit! Dark brown with thin greyish head. Big sweet bourbon, maple syrup, raisans, dates, figs, rosemary, resin, vanilla, hazelnut, coconut. Big sweet, and light bitter. Medium body, soft carbonation. Malty and fizzy. Nice but a bit strange. --- Beer merged from original tick of Lanthrone on 09 Jan 2018 at 13:17 - Score: 8
