First brewed in 2016 in collaboration with Dangerous Man, this German Porter was released at 331 Club during Art-A-Whirl. The collaboration idea began with Surly’s, Jerrod Johnson, and Dangerous Man’s, John Leingang. After coming across some German Porter recipes that are less-roast driven than English Porters, the plan evolved for each brewery to make their own version of the recipe with the input of the other brewery’s team. Surly’s version of this Collaboration beer is a light roast, toasted marshmallow with tangy/funky yeast notes and a woody finish.

All Pints North, 2016. Dark brown color. I was not sure what kind of beer this was until entering the rating, and I picked up a baltic porter character here. Heavily hopped, for the style. dry hops. Maltly finish, some earth at the end.

On tap at Surly. Pours black with a light brown head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has some earthy dark grains with a bit of roasted malts and a light Brett note. Flavor has light dark grains with some bitter chocolate and a hint of Brett.

Almost a touch of sourness in this. Some roast and a hint of coffee. Black pour with ok head and lacing. Light tangy finish. Tap at Churchkey.

Draft at Churchkey during Savor week. Clear maroon color, beige head. Aroma of earthy briwnies. Taste has tobacco, leather, burnt cocoa. Nice.
