This Flanders Red was brewed the traditional way with “younger” beer blended with mature beer that has been aged in wood for several months while Brettanomyces and Lactobacillus labor to produce fruity, tart and acidic flavors.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark caramel color with a large foamy orange-white head that lingered and left a bit of lacing. The aroma was sourish and tart with notes of soy sauce and red wine vinegar. The flavor was tart and sour with notes of red wine vinegar, raspberry vinaigrette and yeast. Very long finish. Medium body. Interesting.

Yes, a very good flanders style but I must say, it doesn’t really hide its alky content too well. Quite good tho, and since I like flanders mildly tart beers, its not too bad. just wish perhaps it was a little less alky in nature. Good tart aroma, and a look of one of my faves, rodey. Not bad overall, glad to have had a chance to taste this. Pretty good. Got this for less than a buck a bottle at my local distributor, good value.

12 ounce bottle from Wine & Beer Cellar, Rockville. MD, 4/29/16. Clear dark copper, thin fizzy white head, decent retention. Aroma of tart cherries and a hint of caramel. The taste is tart cherries and a bit of earth. Thin bodied.

Draft at Stateline. Surprise for me. Aroma is lightly acetic, leafy, earthy pretty authentic. Flavor is lighter and loses the acetic but has plenty earth and leaf. Cool stuff. Copper brown color, clear.

Draft. Woody cherry, caramel malt, and hay aroma. Amber with small head. Moderately sweet cherry, caramel malt, and mildly bitter dry wood/hay flavor. Nice body. Solid.
Light tartness, a wee bit funky

12oz bottle. Approximates the best of the style, with a Sam Adams profile all over it. I would really respect SA if they would drop sixpacks of stuff like this, and they would enjoy a greater presence as well. Like a watered down Rodenbach. A lot more of an authentic feel than most US sour examples. Still comes off a little neutered. OK.

Pours bright orange-mahogany into a Sam glass. White head with little retention quickly recedes to skim surface. Mild sour cherry aromas. Soft with marshmallow and oak upfront turning to mild tart cherry pits before the lasting mild brett finish. Nice, but mild at every turn...
