While not technically a Flanders, this Tart Red Ale is inspired by the style of beer. Brewed with a copious amount of crystal malt for a majestic red color and fermented with Lactobacillus and a Belgian yeast strain for an acidic and spicy finish, this anniversary ale is one to appreciate all year long.

Muddied, ruby coloured body with a light brown glow, some lighter tan head noticeable, but faded quickly with a lot of muddy brown colours noticeable. Aroma of light cherries, malt, earth, a touch of alcohol and some very earthy and grainy elements towards the end. Medium-bodied; Strong rich earthy and malty flavours at first with some lighter fruit elements showing cherries and perhaps some raspberries along with a grassy and hay finish with a light bit of alcohol and some earthy and even lightly nutty finish with a bit of a tart flavour and some yeast elements at the tail end. Aftertaste shows some tart flavours of the cherries with a good deal of earthy flavours and a touch of grain at the very end without much complexity and none of the oak or aged foeder flavours from this one at all. Overall, a pretty substandard beer for the style and overall without much fruit and sour flavours and no real complexities - the malt and earthy flavours hit the hardest and stay the longest. Not really worth trying or searching for, and if you have this on hand, it's probably best to drink it now, as it doesn't seem to be getting much better or have anything to improve upon. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Total Wine in Alexandria, Virginia on 08-June-2016 about two Father's Days ago for US$8,99 sampled at home in Washington on this Father's Day in 2018 on 17-June-2018.

(Thanks, James! "jbruner") Bottle. A- Caramel, cherry, funk, leather, barnyard. A- Reddish brown color, murky liquid, off white head. T- Funky, cherry, musty, Belgian candy yeast, boozy. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, funky finish. O- Really funky and a lot of barnyard on the finish. Not too bad otherwise. Lots of caramel and some cherry.

Keg at Beer Run, 5/29/16. Hazy orange thin creamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of bready malt, caramel, cherries, mild yeast. The taste is tart cherries, bready malt, spice. Medium bodied, mild lingering tartness.

Bomber bottle. Light copper brownish color with a tan head. A faint sour malt smell and that familiar belgian yeasty scent. Flavor is similar. Its not that sour or tart at first. Its actually a bit creamy, however

Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a slightly hazy red-caramel color with an enormous foamy tan head that lingered and left no lacing. The aroma was cola, wood, vague dark fruits and a hint of vanilla. The flavor was sourish with fig, cherry and berry notes followed by wood, vanilla and cola. Medium length finish. Medium body. Ok.

22 oz bottle from Hoboken Vine. Pours a dark reddish-brown color, no head, no lace. Light aroma of dark fruit, sugar, spice, yeast, and a bit of oak. Tastes lightly sweet, somewhat fruity, spice. Lightly dry on the close. Soft feel, somewhat thin. Not really tart or sour at all. Okay.
