This malty, blonde beer is a celebration in anticipation of the blossoming spring. A classic German lager with a full malt body and just a little kick to it. (aka Brinkley's Maibock)

Pour is a clear copper with a small white head. Aroma is all things caramel malt. Flavor is again a lighter dose of the malt with a little earthy hop. Finish is light but some caramel and rich bread are left. A very malt driven simple drinking beer.

Bottle thanks to RobertDale! Pours clear orange with a small off-white head that dissipates quickly leaving some lacing. Aroma is malty, caramel and grain. Taste follows suit, medium sweet and a very light grassy bitterness sitting on top of a pilsner and caramel malty base. Not a bad effort at all.

Draft. Hazy amber/orange body. Thin off-white head. Aroma of caramel, toasted grain, orange, light biscuit. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly bitter. Medium body, watery/velvety texture, lively carbonation. Very sweet taste with raw grainy flavor in the finish.

Bottle: Poured a clear dark golden color bock with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of residual sugar with some biscuit malt. Taste is a mix between some residual sugars with light honey notes with some solid cereal notes. Body is quite full for style with good carbonation. Enjoyable and quaffable with limited complexity. Somewhat too sweet for the style.

Bottle @ home, courtesy of jcnielsen. Thanks Jetson! Pours a hazy, dark orange appearance with a cream colored head. Toasted grainy, light citrus, honey, grassy aroma. Honey, straw, toasted malty, somewhat bready flavor with the grassy, somewhat bitter hoppiness kicking in towards the end. Overall, a pretty decent offering.

Bottle from RobertDale - thanks. Light copper color with a thin sandy head. Mild aroma is malty and slighty earthy. Tastes very mild with mostly a bready maltiness and light in the earthy and floral bits. Maybe a hint of grass. A nice session brew.

Sample at Flying Saucer in KC. Pours a clear copper-red color with a medium thin off-white head that recedes steadily. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of floral hops and bready malt, along with some fruit. Light and clean body with flavors of biscuity malt, hops, citrus and caramel. The finish is toasted malt up front with a fruity aftertaste. Above average overall.

10 oz. draft at the brewpub in Lawrence, Kansas. Pour is clear golden copper with a slight off white head. Aroma is faint, some cereal grains poke through. Taste is nutty sweet malt, along with a mild clove and finishing with a nice mineral earthiness. There is also a vegetal (almost a goat testicle) hoppiness trying to work its way in, which detracts from the malt in my opinion. The finish lingers a bit too long with the yeast. Palate is light to medium bodied.

Side note - I had this while I was in the middle of reading "Charlatan" by Pope Brock, which is the story of Dr. Brinkley, the "goat-gland" doctor who was the inspiration for the name of this beer. Fascinating book.

Shaker pour @ brewpub. Has a clear reddish copper color. Aroma is musky, lagered malts that are lightly sweet. Otherwise a pretty unassuming aroma. Taste is a lightly sweet maltiness and I swear I get just a hint of vomit at the very end of the flavor (I know weird). In general pretty herbal in a vegetal way and not interesting at all.
