Draft pour at Smoke & Barrel, DC. Poured a very dark brown color with a small off-white head. Aroma was cinnamon, some very bitter chocolate and dusty cocoa/coffee, like from a very high-cocoa chocolate. Heavy roast in there. Chalk notes on the finish. Okay.

On tap at Smoke and Barrel pours an oily, deep brown/black with some creamy, lacing off white head. Nose is solid, malt, coffee, vanilla, caramel, mild pepper, mild cinnamon. Flavor follows right along, coffee, earthy and warming cinnamon, in fact the cinnamon masks the alcohol well, licorice, molasses. Smooth finish.

Sampled from the tap at Smoke & Barrel. Pours black with a creamy brown head that lasts throughout the beer. Aroma has a decent amount of roasted malts with some light coffee, a bit of smoke and some dark grains. Flavor is more coffee forward with roasted malts, chocolate and dark grain backing.

Draft at Meridian Pint on release date. Opaque dark brown color, almost black, see pic please. Aroma of espresso and coffee grounds, light cinnamon. Taste is spiced coffee, dark cocoa. Tasty.
