Pour black with full dark tan head. Aromas of mocha, earthy coffee, sugared nuts, and slick roasted malts. Flavors of creamy coffee, roasted malts, and sugar with hazelnuts showing up in the finish. Quite good.

On tap at Beva, pours jet black with a small tan head. Aroma has notes of medium roast coffee, dry cocoa powder, and a touch of artificial hazelnut. Flavour has a solid roasted malt base, with plenty of coffee, some cocoa, but the hazelnut flavouring somewhat ruins the malt complexity with a rather artificial character. I know it’s hard to use real nuts, but the flavourings almost never do justice to the real thing, and this is no exception. There’s a good beer here that would be better without the hazelnut flavouring. As is, this doesn’t really work for me.
