Just like its golden envelope-pushing counterpart, Stone Enjoy By Black IPA is intensely hoppy and should be enjoyed über fresh to experience its vibrant stone and tropical fruit flavors and dankness.

This double IPA’s dark-colored malt canvas comes from German Sinamar and from Patagonia Black Pearl barley, which adds a pleasingly smooth taste. The hop profile is predominantly Australian, featuring down-under wonders Vic Secret, Ella and Galaxy. Stone Enjoy By Black IPA is shipped immediately to ensure hopheads get their hands on it as soon as possible, as it is brewed specifically NOT to last.

This beer took six prototypes to develop and none of them ever quite nailed exactly what we were shooting for. After tasting those prototypes, we continued to refine the recipe each time. Once we finally nailed the recipe development dance between the hoppy aromas and flavors and the delicate back notes of roast, we graduated the recipe to our big brewery here in Escondido so we could bring it to you!

The nose features some dank hops, fresh pink grapefruit and a hint of chocolate. A near black body with an ample, thick, off-white head. Grapefruit, rindy and grassy hops are there from the outset, really well integrated with slightly roasted malt, caramel, a touch of chocolate and some creaminess. There is a rumour of mint and other spices underneath the lead tastes. Strong effervescence, a solid body and a clean finish show the craft of this pretty understated Stone product.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a thick tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, alcohol, deep hops, earth, caramel and a hint of molasses. Medium to Full-bodied; Deep robust earthy malt with a lot of caramelised sugars, some pungent earthy and floral hops and a big bite of alcohol. Aftertaste shows the decently balanced malt and hops with a bit too much bitterness, some assertive alcohol and roasted malt and a touch of grain and lactose on the finish. Overall, a decent Imperial Black IPA, with nothing making this great nor a ’must sample’. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Fair Lakes (Fairfax), Virginia on 04-February-2016 for US$9,99 sampled at home in Upstate New York (New Paltz) on 22-July-2016. Olmost black with an off white head - Hop aroma with some malt in the back - Malt body to support a good hop profile that has some hints of pine and a good bitterness - The pine and bitterness goes into the finish - This was good

Best before 2.14.16 drank nearly 3 weeks after. Oh well. Bottle from SD at home in HK. Dark cola brown-black pour with thick slightly tan (off white) head. Aroma is big pine resin hops with a little bit of roasted coffee grounds, but much more hop-forward. Still really enticing. Taste is big resiny bitterness with a lot of alcohol too. The roasted flavors of a black IPA only come at the end, with a bit more coffee and then lasting bitter resin and booze. Had lowered my expectations based on other reviews but this is delicious, even if less roasted than expected for a black IPA.

Split a 22 of the 2/14/2016 bottling, had 12 days "after the date" - ah well. Poured a dark brown color, with a tan head. Aroma was lots of earthy, roasted, resin notes. Flavor was resin, lots of roast, chewy hops, chewy malts. Okay ,but missing something. I know I had it "late" but 12 days shouldn’t make or break a beer. Not as good as I remember their 11th Anniversary.
