Bit of a gush after I pop the cork, but not a geyser. Nice, thick tan head over a brown/black body. Nose has some Belgian spices, like anise, licorice, dark roast malt. No sugar or alcohol in the nose. Sips nice and dry, a bit coffee roast in the malt, some Belgian farmhouse tang. Nice mouthfeel, slightly thick, leaving very little sugar on my lip. No strong alcohol in the mouthfeel, either. A nice example of a Belgian dark.

Pour is a black with a large bone white head. Aroma is dark fruits some sugar and a bit of tobacco. Flavor is more dark fruit with some anise and it has a dry sweet leathery finish. A thicker mouthfeel than the usual Belgian dark. Needs a bit more carbonation is about the only knock on this one. Super flavorful and I think this is $7 a bottle.

750 c&c from Trader Joe's in Davis, CA. Loud cork pop. No overflow. Pours very dark brown with a large tan head that laced down slowly. Aroma is fruity plummy. Med body or so. Slightly sweet and bitter enough for balance. The flavor is very good, tho I wonder if it's not quite as fruity as the Canadian versions.
