Tap. Pours clear black, medium beige head, great lacing. Aroma is roasty ashtray. Flavor is light sweet, medium bitter, roasty, pine. Basically a hoppy stout; nothing distinctive to the black IPA style other than bitterness.

On tap at The Beer Research Institute, pours black with a small light brown head. Aroma brings out lots of roasted malt upfront, followed by pungent piney hops, and a little dry cocoa. Flavour is robust, with a wonderful mix of roasted malt and piney hops. Dry but not bitter or harsh in any way. Impeccably balanced. An excellent by the books black IPA.

Draft at the source. Opaque dark brown color, tan head. Aroma has roast and light pine. Taste has cocoa, pine, subtle coffee. OK.

A dark brown ipa with a thin lacing mocha head. In aroma, light chocolate malt with coffee notes, grassy floral hops, grapefruit, nice. In mouth, a nice bitter chocolate with coffee grind, musty character, floral hops with grapefruit pulp, very nice. On tap at brewery.

Poured up on tap at the brewpub where it exhibits a dark mahogany colored body that supports a thin tan head. The aroma offers up malts, a dash of sweet chocolate and then bits of dark roasted malts and faint earthy coffee. The taste delivers solid dark roasted malts to burnt malts and then a pleasing load of chocolate goodness. Iβm struggling to find hops here but there seems to be a few slivers of black licorice spiciness blended into pine hops somewhere in the background. Solid roasty brew that could use more of a hop presence for the style. Deep into the after taste there are notes of lingering hop bitterness and dark roasted malts. I like it.
