6.3% New England IPA - Our colleague and top chef Gillian spent several months travelling through various Asian countries but assured us that he did not visit one particular ‘attraction’. We certainly believe him. I HAVE NEVER BEEN TO THE PING SHOW is a genuine New England IPA packed with BRU-1, Sabro and Citra hops. This combination of power hops creates aromas of pineapple, coconut and citrus! A fantastic beer that pairs wonderfully with Asian cuisine... and surely that one ‘attraction’ too

NEIPA by Dok in Ghent with a name referring to a type of erotic show in Thailand, but more importantly, hopped with the relatively rare BRU-1 (though in existence for ten years already now) combined with Sabro and very classic Citra. Can from the Delhaize supermarket at the Sterre in Ghent. Thick and foamy, egg-white, audibly fizzing, shred-lacing, uneven-bubbled yet dense head over a hazy yolk-yellow robe with warm apricot glow, shifting more to ochre further on. Strong and beguiling, expressive bouquet of orange orchard, fresh grapefruit zest, (unripe) pineapple, touch coconut or Malibu liqueur, pink peppercorns, white bread dough, guava, starfruit, marihuana, green bell pepper. Juicy onset, 'clean' fruitiness exclusively from the hops, indeed pineapple-ish (which seems to be typical for BRU-1) but also guava and carambola, less sweet than expected based on aroma, with quite lively, minerally carbonation (more so than average for a NEIPA); nevertheless smooth and creamy body, white-bready core soaked in citrusy and tropical-fruity hoppiness, pineapple and guava again but also pomelo and a touch of coconut (typical for Sabro). Luckily - in my opinion at least - it never becomes too sweet, nor does it end in fruity sweetness: in fact hop bitterness, even a very light peppery hopburn, gets the last word, in a long, spicy, drying finish, where side aromas of marihuana and grapefruit linger - aromas I tend to associate more with classic West Coast IPA than New England IPA. Still very firmly a NEIPA in all respects, though, well executed, expressive and easily drinkable - though elimination of that hopburn (no matter how faint) and a somewhat softer carbonation could help to increase drinkability even more.

Pours unclear blonde. Medium sized, stable but not super moussy white head. Scent is full, citric, dank. pronounced hops, mild on yeast, hidden on malts. Taste is full, slightly bitter. Very 'chewy' creamyness, not very smooth. Hops are very dank, citrussy only in second place. Bit rough around the edges, on what should be very smooth, or a lot more 'clean' if the OG style of Neipa was intended. Medium body, medium to medium high carbo. Not at all a bad beer, but sub average for brewery and beerstyle.
