I don’t know what I was thinking drinking this at the start of August when it was nearly 100 degrees outside. But whatever. This beer instantly made me think of Anchor’s Our Special Ale. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Aroma was holiday spices, light eggnog with notes of mint, coffee. Light gingerbread. Flavor was similar - dark brown sugar notes in this one too. Interesting.

2015 version 7.3% abv. Bomber from Wine Warehouse. Pours hazy brown, almost no head. Smells of dark fruits, caramel, cinnamon, raisin, cherry... actually, let’s stop right there. This smells like a fruitcake. Taste is less pleasing than the aroma. Lager, bubblegum, cinnamon, nutmeg, dark fruit. Eh.

On tap at Fireworks Arlington pours a clear, garnet amber with some sticky, off white head. Nose has raisins, dried cherries, brown sugar, fruit cake, light spice, light boozy esters. Flavor follows right along, malt, brown sugar, raisin, plum, dried cherry, date, cake, spice, a little bubblegum. Finishes full bodied, oily and a little boozy. This is the kinda thing I usually don’t like, but I was really digging this.

Tenth rating of this bad boy. Draft at World of Beer. Hazy golden brown color, tan head. Aroma of cocoa and subtle spice. Taste is more spice forward, mostly nutmeg and cinnamon with warming alcohol. Good name for a Christmas beer.
