This style of beer originated in Munich to celebrate the annual German Oktoberfest. In the old days before refrigeration, beer was brewed from the time of the barley harvest until the first warm month, March. When the harvest came again any of ‘last years’ beer was consumed before the first new batches were ready. The event officially became known as Oktoberfest in the early 1800s.
The style of this beer is a balance between the desires to have a drinkable beer and one that is strong enough to survive the long summer months in the cellar. Today we have modern refrigeration, but we still make this beer several months before the harvest so it can age properly. Millstream’s Oktoberfest is similar to our Munich style Schild Brau Amber, but it has more flavor, it is maltier and darker in color. A truly special beer to celebrate the harvest, an important part of life here in Amana. Join us for the Amana Colonies Oktoberfest and partake in a pint yourself!

Pour is more of a hazy red with a large white head. Aroma is toasted bready malt with some molasses. Flavor is more toasted bread with some minor sweetness. A little alcohol is felt after the swallow. Ok marzen a little more of a higher abv than the usual marzen but this is still flavorful.

Can. Pours a clear light amber with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has lots of bread with a touch of sweetness and some biscuit underlying. Flavor has bread throughout with a bit of biscuit and a touch of sweet grains.

Very crisp amber and light copper coloured body with a nice, three to four centimetre tall off-white head that leaves a pretty lace on the side of the glass. Aroma of light nuts, metal and a relatively astringent scent with some alcohol and biscuity malt, but ending with some light caramelised sugars. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong grassy and malty flavours up front with some light nuts, caramel and earthier notes that show some herbal characteristics, a dose of biscuits, but ending with a spicey quality that shows some malts and drier flavours and a hint of caramel and toffee at the end. Aftertaste shows some grass and sweetness from pitted fruits like prunes and apricots with a caramelised sugar and toffee note at the end, but relatively balanced throughout. Overall, a nice and enjoyable beer with a good quality throughout, especially on the sweet side of things. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Hy-Vee in Omaha (Papillion), Nebraska on 07-October-2019 for US$1,99 sampled in my hotel room here in Omaha, Nebraska on 09-October-2019.

Bottle: Pours hazy amber with a small, off-white head. Caramel, light spice scent. Taste is slightly tangy caramel malt, toast, a bit of sweet spicing. OK.....grew a little too sweet towards the end.

Bottle @ home, courtesy of pepsican. Thanks! Pours a hazy dark orange appearance with a thin cream colored head. Somewhat metallic, caramel, light spice/nutmeg, toasted malty, vanilla aroma. A bit tangy/metallic, chewy toasted malty, rich cracker, herbal, slightly bitter hoppy flavor. Millstream has better German offerings.

12oz shorty bottle. Filtered orange-amber color with a fluffy off white-head. Classic Oktoberfest aroma, deep malts and noble hops. Bitter upfront, but quickly fades into a sweet creamy finish. Quite an excellent example of the style, certainly a tad underrated thus far. Medium bodied, lots of thick malt tones. Almost an orange-vanilla yeasty creaminess. Clean, fresh, and full of flavor. Solid.
